About Jamila

Jamila was born in Dallas, TX, but grew up in various cities throughout the state. She has always been a creative person, adding that extra special detail and flair on school projects that required some imagination. As a young girl, Jamila hoped to become a fashion designer when she grew older. She obtained a BS degree from Prairie View A&M University, where she studied Fashion Merchandising and Design.

Life threw some curve balls, and after several years of working boring and meaningless odd jobs, Jamila got fed up with the 9-to-5 routine, and set out to pursue her passion. Jamila enrolled in art classes at Collin College in Plano, TX to brush up on her drawing and painting skills. After two years of part-time learning at Collin, she took a leap of faith and applied to the Illustration Department at School of Visual Arts in NYC.

Jamila was accepted to SVA, and she continues to work towards her BFA Illustration degree. Stay tuned for more great artwork from this up-and-coming artist/illustrator!
